In Her Image: a woman's mythology
Philosophy
As women, we have gained in our acceptances as equals in the voting booth, the
work place, in high political office and even in the home, but we have not gained
equality in the spirit. We can be worshipped as Goddess or condemned as prostitutes,
but, as woman in the image of God, we are spiritually deprived.
My work has been to seek out a few truths. To do this intuitively and intellectually.
To find the arrows pointing in the direction I should be heading.
Most often, the art has led the study.
Each piece attempts to speak to the collective, intuitive understanding
of who we are and the misrepresentation of that knowledge.
Eve
The bringer and giver of enlightenment, the one who knew woman
knowledge, our role model, became the reason for our subjugation.
Hathor
The One Who Creates Herself from nothing, the mother
of all creation and destruction, is generally unknown.
Medusa
The carrier of divine female wisdom is a gorgon,
to be beheaded because her knowledge was too powerful.
Women know life, we know death and we know rebirth.
That is our power, that is our glory
and we have felt this knowledge forever.
In Her Image: a woman's mythology, is a tool to help us remember an untainted mythology.
It is a small step. Each woman must remember that she is herself made in the Image of the divine.
She is not the destroyer of the human race, she is a creator.
It is not a sin to know, it is a sin not to know.
This work is my attempt to remember and to share the memory.
